Fire TV Troubleshooting Handbook (2026)

Work through these checks one at a time for common display, remote, startup, and Wi-Fi issues. Steps and menu names vary by device; use Amazon support if a control is unavailable on your model.

FireStick Keeps Restarting or Stays Stuck on the Amazon Logo

Start with power: An unstable power source can cause restarts, but HDMI, cable, and device issues can look similar. Power output varies by TV, so use the adapter and cable supplied with the Fire TV Stick when possible.

The Fix:

  1. Disconnect power for 60 seconds, then connect the supplied adapter and cable to a working wall outlet.
  2. Check that the power cable is firmly connected and try another working outlet. Change one thing at a time.
  3. Reseat the HDMI connection and select the correct TV input. If the device still restarts, consult Amazon support for your model.
SECRET SHORTCUT

"No Signal" or Black Screen on TV Input

If your TV detects an HDMI connection but stays completely black, the FireStick is outputting a resolution or refresh rate (e.g. 4K 60Hz) that your TV's HDMI port does not support (HDMI handshake mismatch).

The Secret Remote Resolution Reset:

Press and hold Up (Navigation Ring) and Rewind («) simultaneously for 10 full seconds.
The FireStick will begin cycling through 720p, 1080p 50Hz, 1080p 60Hz, and 4K every 10 seconds. When you see your home screen appear, press Select to lock that resolution.

Alexa Voice Remote Stopped Responding or Flashing Orange

When an Alexa remote loses Bluetooth pairing or experiences radio frequency interference, use the official factory pairing reset:

  1. Unplug the Fire TV Stick from power and wait 60 seconds.
  2. On the remote, press and hold Left + Menu + Back all together for 12 seconds.
  3. Release the buttons and wait 5 seconds.
  4. Slide open the battery door and remove the AAA batteries.
  5. Plug the Fire TV back into power and wait for the home screen.
  6. Reinsert the batteries into the remote, then press and hold the Home (⌂) button for 10 seconds. The LED light will pulse blue when paired!

Endless Spinning Wheel & 4K Buffering

Televisions are built with metal chassis and internal heat shielding that act as Faraday cages, blocking Wi-Fi signals reaching behind the screen.

  • Try an HDMI extender if your model includes one: Moving the stick away from the back of the TV may help when the TV or nearby equipment obstructs Wi-Fi.
  • Check your Wi-Fi band: Try a supported 5 GHz network when the router is nearby; 2.4 GHz may work better over longer distances or through walls. The best choice depends on your router and room.
  • Consider Ethernet: If your router is nearby and your Fire TV model supports the adapter, a wired connection may help with an inconsistent Wi-Fi link. Check compatibility and current price for the Amazon Ethernet Adapter.
